The ‘Voter Protection Act’ was approved in 1998. The VPA protects ‘voter-approved’ initiatives and referendums from tampering by the legislature or governor. Yet, this year, JD Mesnard, from Chandler sponsored legislation, HCR 2043, that basically would overturn this law. He wants to give more power to the legislature than the voters; allowing them to repeal, change & defund ‘laws’ passed by voters! Then to add insult to injury, there is HCR 2023, 2047 and 2024. As citizens of AZ, it is important that we know what our elected lawmakers are doing. If these laws get passed, it directly affects the power of the voters.
